ABOUT US

IWJU is an international union dedicated to advocating on behalf of migrant domestic workers trafficked into modern day slavery. IWJU exists to facilitate and support Migrant Domestic Workers by using a rights-based approach, litigation and campaigning to improve the working conditions of Migrant Domestic Workers.

We are a multi-disciplinary team that consists of solicitors,  lawyers, social workers, mental health professionals and rights campaigners. We promote a society in which all people are accorded equal respect and dignity, and their human rights are upheld, protected and fulfilled by the State through their participation, membership and active involvement in decisions affecting their lives.

WHAT WE DO

  • We use human rights and international labour law for social change.
  • We are a union that represents and acts for our members working as domestic workers in a range of public services and utilities, whether they’re employed by private companies, public authorities, or households.
  • Advocacy, assessment, intervention and litigation are important aspects of the work of the team.
  • We represent members, negotiate and bargain on their behalf, campaign for better working conditions and pay and access to public services.
